As the Nazis begin their rise to power in Germany in the late 1920's, American writer Clifford Bradshaw visits Berlin. After making a few friends and finding housing, Clifford visits the sleazy Kit Kat Club and meets an English singer, Sally Bowles. The writer and singer soon fall in love. Meanwhile, Clifford's elderly landlord, Fraulein Schneider, gets engaged to a Jewish greengrocer, Herr Schultz -- not an easy decision given the increasing influence of the Nazis. Boasting a courageous score, impressive lyrics and a witty and calculated book, CABARET is filled with memorable and, at times, haunting music to set the stage and bring you into the underbelly of the late 1920's Berlin...with songs like "Wilkommen," "Two Ladies," "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," "Don't Tell Mama" and the incomparable title song, "Cabaret."

Upcoming Auditions...

The Wiz
Music & Lyrics by Charlie Smalls

Book by William F. Brown

Directed by Jason Coats
Musical Direction by Christina Schlosser

AUDITIONS:
Friday, November 6th from 6:00pm -- 9:00pm
Saturday, November 7th from 6:00pm -- 9:00pm

EXPECTATION and PREPARATION:
Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to audition. Please have a 32 bar musical theatre selection prepared from any show other than THE WIZ. An accompanist will be provided, so it is recommended that you bring sheet music. A'capella auditions are discouraged but allowed. Singing to CDs or other prepared music will not be allowed. Auditions may also include cold reads from the script and vocal exercises to determine range.

***NEW THIS YEAR FOR DANCERS!! We are seeking to audition a small group of dancers for this production! If you are interested in auditioning as a dancer, please attend the Saturday evening audition. You may also bring a prepared piece of music, or may choose to sing "My Country Tis of Thee". You will then go through a dance audition with the choreographer. You MAY audition for both dancing and non-dancing roles if you would like. Simply indicate your intention to the stage manager when you arrive.

Resumes are suggested, but not required. Headshots are not required. Please bring a list of all known conflicts with you from the date of auditions to the performance dates of January 15-17. While we strive to accommodate the personal and academic conflicts that naturally exist this time of year and with students in performing arts, understand that your conflict schedule may influence casting choices. No conflicts are allowed tech week; we do accommodate conflicts for preparation for final exams, for the weekend of state thespian convention, and for auditions related to state choir.

Music rehearsals will begin the week following auditions. They will usually run M-F from 6-9. Not everybody will be called to every rehearsal. There may be some weekend rehearsals as needed. We break for Thanksgiving. During winter break while school is out, we do hold several "rehearsal intensives" from 10-4 where much of the show is built.

The competition comes to a peak when they agree that the first con man to extract $50,000 from the female heiress, Christine Colgate, wins and the other must leave town forever. Nominated for 11 Tony Awards with a score by, David Yasbek, composer of THE FULL MONTY, the show earned a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Norbert Leo Butz as "Freddy", and DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS delighted audiences for over a year and half on Broadway.
