There's a fine line between a good man...
and a bad.

Patrick Lewallen (Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde) and Laura Jacobs (Lucy Harris) in a scene from "Jekyll & Hyde" at The Barn Players.

Don't miss this pop opera based on the familiar tale by Robert Louis Stevenson of the schizoid doctor who falls prey to the monster within. Jekyll & Hyde opened on Broadway April 28, 1997 and ran for 1,543 performances. Director/Set Designer Eric Van Horn has some added some spark to the production that is sure to thrill. Eric and Musical Director Marsha Canady are aided by a splendid cast, starring Patrick Lewallan, in the dual role of Jekyll/Hyde, Laura Jacobs as the damsel Lucy Harris, Scott Powell, Megan Pasley and Lee Finch. The cast also features Luke Walker, Melinda Whitman, Ray Zarr, Curt Knupp, Dan Prather, John Van De Voort, Ken Koval, Tim Braselton, Skye Reid, Sara Bleything Cohrs, Courtney Kovel, Vanessa Harper, Emily Seifers, Nanette Lippincott, Susan Carriger, Beth Politsch, Mike Brown, and Jered Solace. Upcoming...

The Barn Players 6 x 10 Play Festival
December 5-7, 2008
Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:00pm

What would you say if you had ten minutes on stage and an audience's complete attention? From December 5th through 7th, The Barn Players will present their first "6x10 Festival" of local playwrights. That means 6 plays, each one 10 minutes long, and all written by playwrights in the Kansas City metro area. The collection of plays is thought-provoking and silly, heartbreaking and funny. The plays will be fully staged, with great local actors, sets, costumes, etc. We need you to be there to help us kick off what we hope will become an annual event to provide a voice and a stage for up-and-coming local playwrights. Mark your calendar now! For reservations, please call 913/432-9100 or visit our website at www.thebarnplayers.org

It's A Wrap...

A
New Brain

Lights,
Action, SING!

A New Brain: Congratulations to Director Barb Nichols, Musical Director Martha Risser and the hyper-talented cast of A New Brain. In her 5-Star review of the production in the Kansas City Tribune on October 1, critic Lory Lacy raved "Despite the moniker, this is not 'community theater', it s really 'beyond Broadway', or something equally stupid and catchy like that."

Kudos to the Cast:
Darin Parker
Sarah Lamar
Kristin Leathers
Jennifer Cannady
Mark Murphy
Nick Uthoff
Brad Torres
Rob Reeder
Kipp Simmons
Janelle Grimes

Lights, Action, SING!: Our special musical benefit to raise money for lighting improvements was a huge success thanks to Director Eric Magnus, Musical Director Darin Parker, the flying fingers of Casey Carl, our accompanist, and a wonderful cast of singers. Of course, special thanks goes to everyone who made merry with us and donated so generously to the cause!

Kudos to the Cast:
Jake Borowski
Chris Gleeson
Laura Jacobs
Kristin Leathers
Patrick Lewallen

Barn Players Volunteer Of The Year: John Lutjen

Barn Players President and Artistic Director Eric Magnus and Volunteer Of The Year John Lutjen.

The Barn Players VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR for 2008 is one of our great friends, Mr. John Lutjen. John has graced our stage numerous times in the past years, and it's hard to find an actor who is more dedicated and works harder at the craft of acting than John. But John has made as much impact backstage as onstage at The Barn. He is always willing to help in whatever capacity is necessary for a show. John volunteered his services for numerous shows this year, and his good humor, hard work and dedication to the production at hand and to The Barn Players has always made him a favorite among the actors, directors, production teams and Barn staff and board members.

John accepts every challenge placed before him and works as hard offstage as on. This year, John was slowed by some serious health challenges, but he fought back, worked hard and is slowly recovering and looking forward to returning to The Barn in the future.

The Barn Players Board of Directors is proud to present our 2008 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR award to John. Congratulations, John. Thank you for playing and working with us at The Barn, and our best wishes for your continued recovery. See you back on (and off) The Barn stage soon!

November Auditions...

Godspell

Director Jason Coats and musical director Trent Tinker will be holding auditions for the upcoming Barn Junior musical, Godspell on Saturday, November 8th from 1:00pm 4:30pm at Colonial Church of Prairie Village at 73rd and Mission in Prairie Village, KS. Auditions are on a walk-in basis, so no appointment is necessary. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to audition. Due to the nature of this production, we regret that no students in grades K-6 will be eligible to audition for Godspell. We encourage those students to audition for our summer production of Disney's The Jungle Book. More information is posted on our website at www.thebarnplayers.org
