The Barn Jr. Youth Theatre Program

What is Barn Jr.?

Barn Jr. is the youth theatre program of The Barn Players in Mission, KS. Barn Jr. produces two shows per year - one during the winter for students grades 7-12, and one during the summer (called "Barn Kids") for students grades 3-6.

The summer youth program is an open enrollment program in which students are educated in many aspects of theatre, including both performing onstage and behind-the-scenes technical work. Following the first few days of the program, work begins on the specific production starting with an audition and assignment of parts in the show.

The winter program follows a more traditional theatrical format, including a conventional open-call audition, and allows for a more intensive performance-focused experience. Where the summer program is primarily educational in its mission, the winter program places more emphasis on the final performance.

The Barn Jr. program is directed by our Education Coordinator, Jason Coats. Jason has extensive experience in theatre and music as well as theatre education, with a background in teaching at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
